I'm Elena, and I'm the whole firm.

Admitted in Queensland in 2013, I spent seven years in the estates team of a mid-sized firm before starting on my own in 2020. I kept the part of the job I liked - sitting with families and getting things in order - and dropped the part I didn't, which was the six-minute units.

Things people ask

Do I really need a lawyer for a simple will?

You can buy a kit. About a third of the estates I administer involve a home-made will that was signed wrong, witnessed by a beneficiary, or silent on something that mattered. A will that fails costs the family far more than $440.

What is an Enduring Power of Attorney and do I need one?

It lets someone you trust make financial and personal decisions if you can't. Without one, your family may need to apply to QCAT to be appointed. Most people over forty should have one.

Can you visit my parent in hospital or aged care?

Yes, and I do it often. I will need to satisfy myself that your parent has capacity and is giving instructions freely - that is a legal requirement, and it protects them.
