How the work runs

Format and basis conventions
We confirm the log format, the wording conventions for each basis you assert, and how in-house counsel, agents and consultants are described. Consistency across entries is what makes a log defensible, so the conventions are agreed before drafting starts.

Metadata reconciliation
We pull the metadata, reconcile it against the document face, and list every entry where the two disagree. Wrong authors and missing recipients are the most common reason a log gets challenged, and they come from trusting an export nobody checked.

Description drafting
Each entry is described to convey enough subject matter to support the assertion without disclosing what is protected. A qualified lawyer reviews each description against the underlying document rather than working from metadata alone.

Consistency and delivery
We run a consistency pass across the whole log — same document type described the same way, same participants named the same way — and deliver it with the exceptions list for your review and signature.

- The withheld population, with metadata export, or access to the platform holding it
- Your preferred log format, or the format specified in the protective order or local rule
- The list of attorneys and firms whose involvement supports the privilege assertion
- Any prior log from the same matter, so descriptions stay consistent across productions

- Name normalisation runs across the log so one person is not three entries under three spellings
- Entries asserting privilege without an attorney in the chain are escalated, not quietly logged
- Date, author and recipient fields are verified complete before an entry is included

Do you decide what is privileged?
No. We prepare the log from the population you have designated as withheld and record the basis you assert. The determination is the engaging attorney's, and we escalate rather than resolve any entry where the basis is not evident from the document.
Can you match the format our court or protective order requires?
Yes. Send the local rule, standing order or protective order provision and we draft to it. Where a prior log exists in the same matter, we match its conventions so the productions read as one series.
What if the metadata is wrong?
It frequently is. We reconcile every entry against the document face and return an exceptions list rather than silently propagating an incorrect author or a missing recipient into a filed log.
